A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed. Proverbs 11:25
Why do we give?
We believe that the primary financial duty of believers in Jesus Christ is to exercise stewardship of the resources God has placed in our hands. Whether individuals, families or the local church itself, the Bible teaches that “where your treasure is, there will your heart be also”. According to the Scriptures, Christians should contribute of their means cheerfully, regularly, systematically, proportionately, and liberally for the advancement of the Kingdom’s cause on earth. We recognise that God is our source, and has promised to “minister seed to the sower”. If we are about our Father’s business to “seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness”, He will be about our business to cause “all these [good] things to be added to us”.
Therefore, those who call George Town Baptist Church home are encouraged to be financially involved in the function and well-being of the church. We hold that giving is voluntary, and without coercion. Nevertheless, we acknowledge that without financial support, the church cannot function in this world very well at all.
We also believe that the church family should collectively support missions beyond themselves. Therefore, we support Chaplaincy at the George Town Schools, City Mission, Erik & Natalie McKitrick who diligently work with a worldwide house church movement, and Mobile Mission Maintenance, who have done us much good and Baptist International missions.
Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9: 6 – 7
